Rainfall

Updated: Jul 9, 2025

She is called RAINFALL and depicts the beauty of dancing in the rain. One of my favourite places in our region to go (and there are many) is the You Yangs with their beautiful rock formations. There’s something really healing and special up there. Something special about just being in nature in general. I have painted some little rocks in here and some tiny things in the shadows behind to remind me of the you yangs and to remind us to always look for the beauty in every single day. Look for the hidden things. Play lots. And always get out and dance in the rain - one of my favourite things to do 🌷🍃💛

“She learnt to dance in the rain

She learned to find things to love

And the more she looked

The more she saw”

Learning to dance in the rain is the best medicine of all. When suffering comes, and we all suffer to different degrees, one thing that has always given me hope is the ability to find joy in the little things. Sometimes healing lies within the kiss of a teardrop or a raindrop. The way the sun shines through a forest or the sound of the wind rustling the leaves.

‘Rainfall’ is a depiction of hope in the midst of severe suffering.

I started painting this during a very heavy storm. The rain was pelting down outside and the wind was howling and as I sat dry and warm in my studio I started remembering how much I loved splashing in the puddles in the rain as a little girl. Storms have always been fun to me, as scary as they are. They remind me how small I am in the grander scheme of things.

Storms speak metaphorically to me of the external and internal turmoil we go through in the human experience - things that happen to us, or for me the storm of anxiety that whirls through my head and makes me laugh when people tell me how calm I am as a person! But I still love dancing in the rain, or wading through a puddle after the rain. It’s a beautiful metaphor of the importance of play and finding joy in the little things.

I painted ‘Rainfall’ to acknowledge the horrific things we sometimes go through and to say I get it. I hope that whatever you are going through, you will have the opportunity to find small things to sustain you along the way. There is new life around if we look out for it. trauma doesn’t have to define us forever. Beauty can rise out of the most unexpected places. Never give up hope. Dance in the rain and laugh more if you can. It helps a lot.

Storms teach us lessons and empower us and strengthen us to come out stronger and deeper and even more amazing than before.

‘Rainfall’ is a depiction of hope in the midst of suffering.

The black-and-white lines in this composition, along with the blue box at the top, encourage the viewer to look beyond fixed mindsets and cultural norms—beyond the black and white of life—into portals of infinite possibilities. A red veil, that once covered the subject’s eyes now hangs freely in her hand. Her vision clear and liberated, she dances in the rain embracing the celebration of life

"Art, to me, is a beautiful, intimate weapon, a delightful way to know the Father's heart; to dance with Holy Spirit,  release Heaven on earth and to partner with Jesus and what He is doing. Art heals. Art transcends language and speaks the language of the heart. Art moves mountains and stops hurricanes in their tracks. Art restores hope. That's something I am honoured to be a part of." - Beck Rowse
